profile

Dean was born in the USA, moved to Australia in 1978 and has lived in Tasmania since 2007. Dean is a self-taught photographer who has had a love of photography since early adulthood, but didn’t take photography seriously until 2011, at the suggestion of his late wife, just prior to her passing from ovarian cancer. After 12 months of being mentored and totally immersing himself in learning all he could about photography, Dean came to the realization that he finally found fulfillment and what he should have been doing all his life! Dean loves land/seascape photography, but has a special affinity for abstract and composite art. Dean uses light, line, shape texture and color in creating abstract art, drawing on nature for his inspiration. The flora, fauna, landscape and seascapes provide subjects than can be photographed as they are or combined to create a piece of art based on nature that tells a story or poses a question to the viewer. In many cases Dean’s composite images are full of secrets and slowly release more detail the longer you look at them! Dean has been studying Photoshop Artistry with Sebastian Michaels since December 2014. Dean’s work is held in private collections in Australia and the USA. He has had representation in galleries around Tasmania since 2013 and was honoured to be a Glover Art Prize Finalist in 2014 and again in 2016. The Glover Prize is one of Australia’s Premier Landscape Art Prizes. Dean’s dream is to go to Tanzania to visit the villages supported by the Care For Africa Foundation and photograph the people and animals in their region. Dean supports the Care For Africa Foundation “Through joining WorldPix I look forward to introducing the Care For Africa Foundation and the wonderful work they do, with the rest of the world.”  Dean Hohn
