About Bana Ba Letsatsi

Living Conditions

In the ever expanding small town of Maun, Botswana, where employment opportunities are too few to support all the families, many children are abandoned due to parental alcoholism and drug abuse.

They find themselves subjected to living on the streets without education and the likelihood of being caught in drug and alcohol abuse themselves.

Health and Wellness

Maun, Botswanas tourism hub has expanded to 50 000 people many of whom have left their rural subsistence cattle ranching lifestyle for possible “better” opportunities in the town.

Botswana has a very high prevalence of HIV/AIDS within the childbearing age, resulting in many children being left in the care of Grandparents or with caretakers all together. 1 in 4 people are HIV positive in Botswana!

Cause Origins

In 2002 Bana Ba Letsatsi (BBL) was founded to provide rehabilitation, shelter, nourishment, education, medical and emotional support for these children.

BBL also supports the early childhood stage by providing many more community children with the opportunity to private preschools. Bana Ba Letsatsi believes in providing at risk children with an education.

Safe Haven & Structure

In a struggling community BBL is a safe haven for orphans and vulnerable youth, offering them important life skills in the areas of structured daily activities, school schedules and school holidays, youth technical skills training,

Early childhood education programs, mentoring and family initiative education, all with the outcomes base of finding employment and taking care of their own families in time.
